Published on January 28, 2019 by Brenda Forton
The construction industry nationwide is experiencing an increase in activity. Workers are in high demand but many companies are struggling to find the help they need to complete upcoming projects. Minnesota is no exception.
Do a search for “Builder” on the Minnesota Employment and Economic Development Occupations In Demand web page and you’ll find a high demand for construction workers in five job titles. Construction Laborers lead the list, Compliance Officers come in second, with First-Line Supervisors, Construction Managers and Operating Engineers and Other Construction Equipment Operators taking 3rd, 4th and 5th place. The demand for these jobs is projected to increase at rates of 8 – 9.7 percent in the next ten years.
Fred Economic Data reports that from December 2017 to October 2018 construction trades jobs increased and peaked in February, declined steadily into April then rose significantly to its highest point in October.
According to Finance & Commerce, the construction industry gained 1,700 seasonally adjusted jobs during the month of August 2018, the most of any industry tracked by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
