This 12-hour course will provide the training necessary to become licensed as a dwelling contractor and covers construction laws and practices, Wisconsin building codes, the municipal codes, energy conservation, and heating, ventilating and air conditioning.

This 12 hour course will provide prospective Dwelling Contractors with the training necessary to become licensed as a Dwelling Contractor in Wisconsin. 

Learning Objectives: 

At the end of this class students will be able to: 

  • Create and evaluate contracts
  • Understand the OSHA requirements
  • Explain the requirements for dealing with lead and asbestos
  • Manage a Dwelling Contractors license in compliance with Wisconsin rules and laws
  • Remember where to find the requirements for wood frame walls 
  • Follow the building and municipal codes when completing construction projects 
  • Define R-value 
  • Understand the REScheck program and remember where to find it 
  • Explain the requirements for combustion air 

Course Details: 

Construction Laws and Practices 

This section of the class covers the laws that govern running a construction business and managing employees and contractors. 

This section teaches the following learning objectives: 

  • Create and evaluate contracts 
  • Understand the OSHA requirements 
  • Explain the requirements for dealing with lead and asbestos

Wisconsin building codes (Chapter 321) and the municipal codes (Chapter 320) 

This section teaches the following learning objectives:
