Spring has finally arrived in Michigan, which means so has your busy season. We know now might not seem like the best time to complete your continuing education. But our online courses make it easy to finish the state requirement before the May 31st deadline around your busy schedule.
Michigan Continuing Education Requirements
- Michigan Builders and M&A Contractors licensed less than six years must complete 21 hours of state-approved continuing education.
- Those licensed more than 6 years are required to complete a 3-hour code, law and safety course.
- Continuing Education Deadline: May 31st every three years after getting licensed

How to Renew Your Michigan Builders License
Once you finish your continuing education requirements by taking the courses described above, you must complete your license renewal online through the state of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). Here’s a step-by-step guide.
How to renew your Residential Builder license online:

- Complete the online renewal form & pay $150 renewal fee
- You must pay the $150 renewal fee by credit card or electronic check online at the time of renewal. Prepaid credit cards are available at most grocery stores and gas stations for any individuals who do not own credit cards or are uncomfortable paying by electronic check.
Note: Renewals completed after May 31st but before July 1st will incur an additional $20 late fee.
